All Blacks inflicts more Bledisloe woe on Wallabies

Now the Wallabies really have something to worry about. This was supposed to be their year. The end of the 16-year Bledisloe drought. The launch of the great rebirth.

Instead it rained more All Blacks-inflicted misery at Sydney's ANZ Stadium, where the gold clad among the 66,318 in attendance left feeling like they'd just witnessed a false dawn. The New Zealanders romped to a six tries to one, 38-13, victory that was every bit as emphatic as that score suggests.

What is more they did it with a scintillating second-half performance after they'd trailed 6-5 at the break on the back of a dour opening 40. After that they came out and left the Wallabies foundering in their wake, dominating their lineout (the Wallabies lost seven on their throw), scrum and breakdown, and opening holes in their defence seemingly at will.

Springboks rely on 2nd-half surge to see off Argentina 34-21

South Africa scored four tries in the second half to come from behind and beat Argentina 34-21 in the Rugby Championship, avoiding a second straight surprise defeat to the Pumas in Durban.

The Springboks scored first but trailed 14-5 and 14-10 at halftime after Argentina hit back with tries by flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez and flanker Pablo Matera at Kings Park on Saturday (overnight NZ), where the Argentines won their first test over South Africa in 2015.

This time, South Africa replied with three tries and 17 unanswered points in the first 15 minutes of the second half, with wingers Aphiwe Dyantyi and Makazole Mapimpi each completing a double.

WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL RUGBY

Fiao'o Faamausili hat-trick powers Black Ferns past Wallaroos in Sydney

Black Ferns skipper Fiao'o Faamausili had herself a night out in the first half of their historic trans-Tasman double-header in Sydney on Saturday evening.

The veteran hooker, who put her retirement on hold to be part of the new wave of contracted players in New Zealand, scored three tries as the Black Ferns rolled past an improved Wallaroos outfit 31-11 to ensure the retention of the Laurie O'Reilly trophy with still next week's clash at Eden Park to come.

Ireland Win ,But All Blacks Retain No1 Ranking

“We’re pretty happy,” says Ireland’s captain. “It was a fantastic game. We knew we were going to have to go attack them and go after them. To stop New Zealand scoring a try is a great achievement. The boys are very tired in there but it’s amazing what a win can do to give you a bit of energy.”

Ireland beat the All Blacks and a huge roar goes up around the Aviva Stadium. Some Irish players celebrate, while more just collapse on the turf following a huge, heroic effort. New Zealand retain their No1 status in the world rankings, but ahead of next year’s World Cup in Japan, Ireland have thrown down a big marker.
